Biden inadvertently promotes Bitcoin

The Democratic party, led by Joe Biden, has not captured the hearts of American investors when it comes to cryptocurrencies. Crypto enthusiasts frequently criticize the Biden administration for its negative stance on digital assets. However, in a new post on Twitter, now officially called ‘X,’ the President of the United States unintentionally advertises Bitcoin (BTC).

Biden joins BTC meme

On August 3rd, Biden tweeted, “a cup of Joe never tasted better,” along with a video of himself drinking coffee from a mug. The nine-second video is an advertisement for his “dark roast mug” as part of his new reelection campaign.

Link to Bitcoin

At first glance, the connection to Bitcoin may not be immediately apparent, but true Bitcoin purists will quickly make the association upon seeing the video.

The coffee mug features the face of the current president with glowing red laser eyes. Since the previous bull market, these laser eyes have become a popular symbol within the Bitcoin community. In 2021, Bitcoiners changed their social media profile pictures to images of themselves with laser beams on their heads. The idea behind the meme is simple: you change your profile picture if you believe that the Bitcoin price will reach the magical threshold of $100,000.

We now know that the price prediction was a big failure, as the price did not surpass $69,000. Nevertheless, at the time, many big names joined the movement, including Tom Brady, Paris Hilton, and Elon Musk.

Misunderstanding

Biden’s post has been flooded with reactions from the crypto community. Crypto fans responded with excitement and amusement at the detail in the video. However, it is clear that the current president did not add the laser eyes due to his bullish expectations for Bitcoin.

Reactions from the Bitcoin community naturally have a cynical undertone. There are plenty of jokes suggesting that Biden is now a “Bitcoin maxi,” meaning he is part of the hardcore Bitcoin defenders.
