Ron DeSantis Promises an End to the War Against Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies in the United States
Platform for Economic Independence
Florida governor and Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis expressed his support for bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies during a campaign event in New Hampshire. In his speech, DeSantis pledged to put an end to the war against bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in the United States.
The statement from DeSantis likely stems from the recent Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) charges against various crypto exchanges. One example is Coinbase, which faced pressure from the SEC to remove all cryptocurrencies except bitcoin from its trading platform.
As part of his 2024 presidential campaign, DeSantis has been promoting a platform based on “economic independence.” This platform will include specific policies regarding digital currencies. The details of these policies are still unclear, but DeSantis suggests that they will involve the Federal Reserve.
Digital Dollar in the Trash
Last year, the current President of the United States, Joe Biden, signed an executive order outlining plans for a regulatory framework for digital currencies. These plans included the development and rollout of a central bank digital currency (CBDC), commonly referred to as a digital dollar.

However, Republican presidential candidate DeSantis reiterated his plans to ban the CBDC if he becomes president.
“As president, the CBDC will go in the trash on day one – we will not allow it.”
He compares the U.S. government’s plans for a CBDC with those in China, where the central bank is currently conducting trials with a digital yuan. He also claims that the “unpredictable elites” in the government cannot be trusted with the potential rollout of a digital dollar. According to him, the Federal Reserve wants to move towards a cashless society.
Democrat Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Also Supports Bitcoin
While DeSantis is considered one of the more popular Republican candidates, he still lags behind former President Donald Trump, according to the New York Times. They are expected to be selected as the contenders in the party’s primary elections in different states.
It’s not only the Republican parties that have expressed support for cryptocurrencies like bitcoin. Democrat Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a party candidate, has made several pro-crypto statements during his campaign and revealed various BTC purchases.
